Rock Stars and Paparazzi

memento-mori-skull_48

You just have to listen to this absolute banger, straight outta the ghettos of Switzerland, from a group of guys calling themselves Subdelux.

Subdelux - Paparazzi (the video for it isn’t too bad either)

Also, just because 199x loves the Disco Villains right now, here’s their little treatment of N*E*R*D’s Rock Star. I thought it went well with the Subdelux track. You know, thematically.

Bukavu Memories

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I was going through photos that I’d been tagged in on Facebook the other day (you know, to de-tag any controversial ones) when I came across this classic one in the album of some guy named Scott Ramsay.

I don’t know who he is because I can’t access his profile, but I’m glad someone tagged me in this photo.

It is from a charity event called Bukavu that was raising money for some sort of African-related cause. The entire event was safari-themed. I was never clear on the exact details, but I knew that my $75 ticket entitled me to open-bar privileges and a swag bag.

It was a good night - Tzero and I drank Amarula until someone puked all over the inside of the bar. (It wasn’t me)

Anyways, check out this remix of a Rockland track by NONEWYORK (you can listen to the original over at The Docking Station)

Rockland - You Can’t Stop Californi Yee (NONEWYORK Remix)

They’ve got some other good tracks on their Myspace - give ‘em a listen.

Trouble Coming

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Word is that back in the day the CIA distributed a booklet to Nicaraguan citizens about how to upset the government. You can check it out here, or look at some pictures from it below.

These totally make me want to start bringing a dry, compressed sponge to parties.

I also like the idea that a government can be toppled with false hotel reservations.

On a related note, Taliesin is distributing a pretty wicked mix that I’m sure will upset someone. (I guess he’s part of Dutty Artz, whatever that means). Full track list is below.

3 O’Clock

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

3am or 3pm, Tzero is looking good in that wig. In fact, he looks like a real brawler. I wouldn’t mess with him.

Heads We Dance - The Human Touch (Charlie Fanclub Remix)

The Presets - Talk Like That (Dave Spoon Mix)

Body Rollin’

Friday, December 12th, 2008

I didn’t know what Body Rollin’ was until I saw this video, and now I can’t stop thinking about it.

This new Crookers vid also has some good body-rollin’ action

Thanks to First Up and Trash Menagerie for the vids.

You Just Can’t Take A Bad Picture of The Persian Prince

Well, actually you can. But this one of him from a few weeks ago is pretty good.

The Birthday Girl (behind him) also looks pretty good.

Anyways, here are some tracks from that night:

Hail Caesar on Halloween (45th generation Roman)

Julius Caesar

From a series of Halloween photos is my own costume, the Roman Empire’s favorite emperor Gaius Julius Caesar.

My original idea was to go as historically-accurate Caesar (with 23 bloody stab wounds) and have Claudio go as Brutus, but he wasn’t into it.

Here’s some pure poetry from Mike Skinner’s first album:

The Streets - Turn The Page

That track is epic, and I get shivers every time I hear it.

Hit up Mikey Skinner on MySpace or buy Original Pirate Material here.

For more pictures from what was an equally epic Hallowee, check out what the Manni boys dressed up as.

The Manni Boys Celebrate Halloween

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Alright, so I know that All Hallow’s Eve was a few weeks ago but I’ve finally gotten around to sorting out my pictures from then.

First up is this picture of Claudio Manni and his brother Toni Pepperoni. They went as each other, and won first place in the costume contest at the party we went to. I’m pretty sure that I drank the two bottles of wine that were their prize but that’s okay. Claudio (on the right) was the only one of the two who put any effort into his costume.

As Tiga says:

“Times they tend to change
Brothers into friends
Times they get so strange
Friends like brothers”

Tiga - Brothers

(keep on listening, because after about the seven minute mark there is an entire other song. Back in the day, we used to call it a “secret song.” Now I just call it me being too lazy to remove it.)

Tiga is on MySpace here and you can buy his tracks on iTunes here.
