How many posts about electro-music and vampires can really be written? I mean SERIOUSLY - I’m even starting to get tired of these.

Nah, just kidding. I’ll never get tired of this type of stuff.

Everyone Loves Katy Perry

picture-1

I have to admit that I didn’t really become tuned into the phenomenon that is Katy Perry until she appeared on The Simpsons a few weeks ago. Since then, I’ve become a Katy Perry awareness sponge, absorbing the ways that she has permeated our culture. I mean, do you have any idea how many chicks rocked the blue wig on Halloween? I thought it was just some sort of fad thing at the time.

Anyways, here’s the KP fix you’ve been jonesing for.

Notorious B.I.G.  - Back to Cali Gurls (Katy Perry Remix)

Life in Lotus Land VII: Tokyo

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Thanks to finding a bunch of photos from my time in Japan on a couple of recently-restored hard drives, I’ve been suffering from mega bouts of mega Nippon-nostalgia. Mostly, I’m missing Tokyo. That city is just so big and amazing, its hard not to miss. Nothing will ever really compare to it, and nothing can even really describe it.

That means I’m envious of Gejius, who’s living in Tokyo right now.

The kid dropped a free album of tracks that you can download on Soundcloud. He describes his music as funky space disco, and you know I love that style.

Gejius - TOKIO

The XX - Crystalized (SLYDE Remix)

SLYDE doesn’t have anything to do with Japan, but I was listening to the track when I was going through these old pictures and it worked, so there you go.

Read more about Life In Lotus Land here.

Slyde is on Twitter

so is Gejius. Say hi to both of them for me. Then follow 199X on Twitter.

Nerdcore Anthem of the Year (Geek and Gamer Girl Song)

screen-shot-2010-10-13-at-114253-pm

Its pretty much a fool-proof plan for a video: combine the geek-comedy genius of Seth Green with hot chicks singing about video games, parodying one of the hottest songs of the summer.

Add in a dash of Stan Lee excelsior, and 2 million views later you’ve got a hit.

Seth Green - Geek and Gamer Girls Song

I give them double bonus points for the Han Shot first reference and for having an amazing video.

Still Obsessed With Golden Robots

goldenbot

As a reader pointed out last year, I spend a lot of time talking about Golden Robots here on 199X.

What’s not like to them? Its like the perfect merger of technology and art - a beautiful mechanism. I like nice watches, but I’d rather be friends with a Golden robot. It would probably be awesome to party with.

Anyways, here are a couple of tracks that might get you thinking about Golden Robots.

Robot Rippers vs. Millionaires - Alcohol Robotripping Remix

Ellie Goulding - Lights (Messed Remix) (Via Phase02.org)

The Golden Filter - Solid Golid (Drag Screw EDIT)

PR Girls Like Their Lattes Hot, Thick And Creamy

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Its been a while since a song made me laugh out loud. Thankfully, The Deli Boys dropped me their track PR Girls, Inspired by the chicks in public relations that they know.

Is it reinforcing the stereotype of PR girls as nothing more than dumb, gold-digging sluts that are into lattes, brunch and fashion? Definitely. But that’s what makes it good.

From their blog post about the track:

“It talks about the large boot, small dog, fancy bag culture that has taken over the city streets across our nation. We recognized a type of girl that was repeatedly emerging from the deep jungles of urban culture. Owning the street with their over-priced bags, they developed their own language of terms by using weird melodic lisps and slurs. These women, no matter if they were in the Public Relations field or not, were dubbed “PR Girls”. This term catapulted the idea of writing and producing this song. We hopes you like.”

The Deli Boys - PR Girls

Here’s a few other tracks to go with the theme:

Toktok vs. Soffy O - The Lookalikes

Wax Dolls - Spoiled Rich Bitches (Trash Yourself Remix)

If you like The Deli Boys, I have a feeling you might also like The Girls Can Hear Us.

Dracula’s Moon Base

draculamooncastle

I don’t know what is more awesome about that panel - the fact that Dracula has a castle on the moon, or that he also appears to be in fairly regular contact with Dr. Doom.

The panel is from an issue of Captain Britain where the two super villains team up to take over Britain. I’m sure good eventually triumphs, but Victor and Vlad make for a pretty dangerous combo.

You know what kind of music goes with Vampiric Moon Castles? Fake Blood. And it’s even better mixed with sugary female electro vocals.

That’s why I love these track that Its Overture and Brand X dropped me last week.

Its Overture - 100% Fake Blood ((Crystal Waters (Risk One Remix) vs. Little Boots (Fake Blood Remix))

Brand X - Banging On Mars (Fake Blood versus Rye Rye)

The Man With The Gold’N'Fly Rhymes

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

One of the best parts about having this blog is that people send me their music all of the time. While some of it ends up being pretty terrible, some of is just a different kind of genius.

An example of this type of genius is Alex Kresovich - he sent me an entire album of hip-hop remixed with the soundtrack from Goldeneye 64.

That’s right - not one song. An entire album.

Wu-Tang - Gravel Pit (Alex Kresovich Gold’N'Fly Remix)

Jay-z - Pray (Alex Kresovich Gold’N'Fly Remix)

2pac - Holler If You Hear Me (Alex Kresovich Gold’N'Fly Remix)

While I never really got that into Goldeneye, I’ve got a ton of respect for Alex for putting this together.

Download the entire album at GoldNFly.com.

The Obligatory ATL RMX Post

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

You gotta hand it to Adult Swim. First they brought us the Mouse & The Mask, an album by MF Doom and Dangermouse that was heavily influenced by Aqua Teen Hunger Force and other adult swim shows. And now they’ve dropped ATL RMX on us, a free album featuring southern hip-hop tracks remixed by electro artists. Young Jeezy? Check. Young Dro? Check. Two (count ‘em) Li’l Jon tracks on the mix? Check.

Lil Jon feat. Kee - Give It All You Got (Drums of Death Remix)

Young Jeezy - I Got This (El-P Remix)

OJ Da Juiceman feat. Gucci Man - Good Night (HEALTH Remix)

Psycho Mantis Doesn’t Need A Hook

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I’d say that half of the music I like is pure, decadent electro that doesn’t really require much thought. The other half is music that tells a story, and that’s why I like this track from Oddioblender. Give it a listen and let the story play out.

Oddioblender - Psychics Don’t Need Hooks

After listening to it, I totally started remember Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid. Remember how he read your memory card, and the only way to beat him was to unplug your controller, and plug it into the other port? Truly a memorable moment, and definitely some fourth-wall breaking shiznit right there.

You know who else doesn’t need a hook? Jay-z, that’s who.

Jay-z - No Hook (Team Teamwork Meeting the Owl Remix) (from their nerdtastic Ocarina of Rhyme album)
