Everyone Loves Katy Perry

picture-1

I have to admit that I didn’t really become tuned into the phenomenon that is Katy Perry until she appeared on The Simpsons a few weeks ago. Since then, I’ve become a Katy Perry awareness sponge, absorbing the ways that she has permeated our culture. I mean, do you have any idea how many chicks rocked the blue wig on Halloween? I thought it was just some sort of fad thing at the time.

Anyways, here’s the KP fix you’ve been jonesing for.

NONEWYORK is Born In Blood

descent

It has been a while since I last heard from NONEWYORK, and that’s why I was so excited when they sent me an email the other day with a couple of new tracks.

Born in Blood is a slower track from what I think they normally do. Its dark and full to the brim with dub and samples from Dexter.

Their refix of Rusko’s Cali Anthem is also a solid track, and the Tupac sample really cements the California feel. In fact, it even inspired me to add a California category to this blog.

Rusko - Cali Anthem (NONEWYORK Refix)

The NONEWYORK boys are featured on Bay Area Bass Vol 1 and you can grab the whole thing here. They are also NONEWYORK_BASS on Twitter, and they’ve also got some mean bass on their MySpace page.

You can also find a couple of other tracks by them on 199X here and here.

The image above is from the The Descent, probably one of my favorite horror movies. Its full of blood and claustrophobic terror.

Ninjas Need Lovin’ Too

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Two things that I definitely think are awesome are ninjas and hot blondes - and that’s why this picture of a hot blonde showing that ninja some love is so awesome.

This rework of the Robin S. house track “Show Me Love” is also pretty awesome. Its by the good half of NONEWYORK, a fella that goes by the name of Something Wrong. They’ve got also got an EP out on beat port

More awesome pictures like the one above can be found at Blonde Zombies.

We’ve blogged NONEWYORK before here and here.

Bukavu Memories

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

I was going through photos that I’d been tagged in on Facebook the other day (you know, to de-tag any controversial ones) when I came across this classic one in the album of some guy named Scott Ramsay.

I don’t know who he is because I can’t access his profile, but I’m glad someone tagged me in this photo.

It is from a charity event called Bukavu that was raising money for some sort of African-related cause. The entire event was safari-themed. I was never clear on the exact details, but I knew that my $75 ticket entitled me to open-bar privileges and a swag bag.

It was a good night - Tzero and I drank Amarula until someone puked all over the inside of the bar. (It wasn’t me)

Anyways, check out this remix of a Rockland track by NONEWYORK (you can listen to the original over at The Docking Station)

Rockland - You Can’t Stop Californi Yee (NONEWYORK Remix)

They’ve got some other good tracks on their Myspace - give ‘em a listen.
