I used to be a pretty big Kylie Minogue fan, but I think Nicki Minaj has just replaced her as my number one celebrity crush. Realistically, she’s more just like the 21st century Foxy Brown.
What sold me was the video for Check It Out. Although it’s pretty much just visual treat to accompany the pop ear candy of the track, its still fun. I also like how they went with Korean characters. If you didn’t like that video, at least give the video for Your Love a shot.
Anyways, here are some tracks, including a nice piece of work from The Hood Internet.
One of the best parts about having this blog is that people send me their music all of the time. While some of it ends up being pretty terrible, some of is just a different kind of genius.
An example of this type of genius is Alex Kresovich - he sent me an entire album of hip-hop remixed with the soundtrack from Goldeneye 64.
The Girls Can Hears Us! (conveniently shorted as TGCHU) have the sort of self-aware hilarity that I like in my electropop-rap, and the catchy beats also make for pretty good gym music.
Now, just in time for summer, TGCHU are going to drop their debut album and all of the songs sound pretty good. Even better is that the boys are fans of giving some of their tracks away for free, and hooked me up with a couple for posting here.
To stay posted on when their album comes out, hit up TGCHU.com. Bide your time until then with a couple of other TGCHU tracks I’ve posted here and here.
You gotta hand it to Adult Swim. First they brought us the Mouse & The Mask, an album by MF Doom and Dangermouse that was heavily influenced by Aqua Teen Hunger Force and other adult swim shows. And now they’ve dropped ATL RMX on us, a free album featuring southern hip-hop tracks remixed by electro artists. Young Jeezy? Check. Young Dro? Check. Two (count ‘em) Li’l Jon tracks on the mix? Check.
I’d say that half of the music I like is pure, decadent electro that doesn’t really require much thought. The other half is music that tells a story, and that’s why I like this track from Oddioblender. Give it a listen and let the story play out.
After listening to it, I totally started remember Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid. Remember how he read your memory card, and the only way to beat him was to unplug your controller, and plug it into the other port? Truly a memorable moment, and definitely some fourth-wall breaking shiznit right there.
You know who else doesn’t need a hook? Jay-z, that’s who.
It makes me wonder what these theorists would make to Jay-Z’s connections to German electro-pioneers and avid cyclists Kraftwerk. In the track “Sunshine,” it definitely sounds like he samples the Kraftwerk track “Man Machine” from their album of the same name.
I remember first realizing where Jay-Z got that sample from and being blown away. Probably more blown away than was warranted. Someone needs to do a mashup of these two songs.
And remember: its not a crazy conspiracy theory if it actually turns out to be true.
The Persian Prince and I have no idea who Lorentz and Sakarias are, but we both agree that this low-fi (bordering on acoustic) hip-hop track is dope as hell. We’re both pretty sure it is in Swedish since they refernce Stockholm, and the language is definitely rhyme-friendly.
I’ve been looking for an excuse to post this shirt for a while, and IllStM gave me that excuse when he sent me an email with the “Do You Want To Splash Your Blog with Some Fresh Norvegian Blood?” as the subject and a couple of bangin’ tracks attached. “Fitte Prins” is the Norwegian phrase that translates roughly as Playboy - the kind of gadabout ladies man that we can all admire.
Since we’re talking about fitteprinsen here, it also felt appropriate to post this other track courtesy of The Hood Internet.
